From checking out the latest in wedding fashion to cheering on football players to enjoying a performance by Scottish band The Proclaimers (we’ve got tickets to give away!) to taking a sports car for a spin around a track, there is lots to do around town even as the weather heats up. Here are our picks:
Wedding expo
The 9th International Wedding Exhibition and Fashion Show Doha is open through April 30 at Katara Cultural Village’s Katara Hall, building 12.
The event focuses on the latest wedding-related trends and offers good and services for interested buyers. There’s also a pampering area where beauty tips and ideas are offered by professional experts and stylists.
The exhibition is free and open from noon to 10pm today and tomorrow (April 27-28), from 3pm to 10pm on Friday and from noon to 10pm on Saturday. Fashion shows will be held from 5pm to 9pm each day.

The Proclaimers
Popular Scottish duo The Proclaimers will perform in Qatar at the Intercontinental Doha Hotel on April 29.
Doors open at 7:30pm, with the band expected to take to the stage at around 9:30pm. Qatar-based DJ Legacy will entertain concert-goers before and after the performance.
Tickets cost QR250 and include one drink, and can be purchased online. Attendees must be over 21 years old to attend and bring their ID cards or passports to the gig.

Qatar Cup Final
Current Qatar Cup champions Lekhwiya and 2014 Qatar Cup winners El Jaish will face off on Friday for the Qatar Cup Final.
The match will be held at Al Sadd Stadium, with kickoff starting at 7:15pm.
Tickets cost QR10 and QR50 per person, and can be bought online until noon on Friday or in person until Thursday at the following venues:
- Qatar Sports Club – Gate 5 Ticket Office (4pm to 9pm);
- Katara Cultural Village (5pm to 10pm); and
- Al Sadd Stadium – Main Entrance Reception Area (4pm to 9pm)
There will be a fan zone for the public, including activites for children, and the Qatar Stars League will be raffling off prizes that include Toyota vehicles.
Free test drives
Motor enthusiasts will be able to test-drive cars on a professional track on Friday, April 29 at the Qatar Racing Club.
“A Car Test Drive and Extreme Performance Day” is being hosted by Al Mana Group and runs from 3pm to midnight. It includes track test drives, drag racing and drifting, as well as shows, music and food and beverages. There will also be a kid’s zone.
The event is free and open to all.
Squashathon
Community College of Qatar is hosting a Squashathon for charity on Saturday, April 30 from 8am to 8pm at the Khalifa Squash Complex (courts 1 and 2).
It’s free to play and there will be complementary refreshments, but donations to support Educate A Child are appreciated. The charity aims to bring primary school education to millions of children.
There are also drawings for prizes, including a night in an executive suite at Shangri-la Doha for donations of QR1,000 or more; a 60-minute treatment at CHI, The Spa; or a two-person lunch or dinner at Sridan restaurant for those who donate QR500-999.

Postcards from England
The Doha Community Orchestra & Wind Symphony will perform music from English composers on Friday, April 29 at the Park House English School Auditorium at 7pm.
The “Postcards from England” concert costs QR50/person and QR20/children 10 years old and under. Tickets can be bought online or at the door.
Bonus:
- Western music concert: The Qatar Music Academy is holding its annual Western Department Concert on Saturday, April 30 from 5pm to 7pm at the Qatar National Convention Center, Auditorium 3. The show will include a selection of western music played by QMA’s senior ensembles and faculty members. The event is free and open to the public.
- Bring a bag day: 2nd Chance Rescue Shelter is holding an open day on April 29 from 3pm to 5pm. Entry is free but visitors are asked to bring a bag of dry dog or cat food for the shelter’s animals. Visitors can spend the time cuddling with cats or walking the dogs that are waiting to be adopted. More information is available on the shelter’s event’s page.
