Some of the world’s top gymnasts, chefs and entertainers are in Qatar this weekend for various events happening in and around Doha. Here are our picks for what to check out around town over the next few days.
Artistic Gymnastics World Cup Series
The 9th Artistic Gymnastics World Cup Series will take place in Doha starting tomorrow, March 24, and running until Saturday, March 26.
The international event is attracting more than 100 gymnasts from 33 countries to compete for $50,000 in prize money.
Competitions take place at the Aspire Dome and run from 2pm to 7:30pm on Thursday, 5pm to 8pm on Friday and 4:30pm to 7:30pm on Saturday.
Tickets can be reserved online and are free for Thursday’s qualifying events. Prices on Friday and Saturday range from QR30 to QR100 per person. Children under the age of six years old are free.

Qatar International Food Festival
The annual Qatar International Food Festival returns for a seventh year with a week of culinary events and food trucks. Highlights include a suspended sky restaurant and live cooking shows from local and international celebrity chefs.

The event this year will be spread across Doha. There will be hubs at the Museum of Islamic Art Park, Katara and the Pearl-Qatar. Additionally, many more restaurants are expected to participate by offering special menus and events.
The festivities at MIA Park run from 1pm to 10:30pm daily, while events at Katara and the Pearl-Qatar run from 4pm to 10pm on weekdays and 1pm to 10pm on weekends.

Amitabh Bachchan in Doha
Well-known Indian actors Amitabh Bachchan, Akkineni Nagarjuna, Prabhu Ganesan and Manju Warrier will be in town on Friday to inaugurate seven new Kalyan Jewellers stores across Qatar.
They will start in Al Khor at 9:30am before traveling to Abu Hamour (11am), Barwa Village (1pm), Garafa (2:15pm), Al Rayyan (3:15pm), Asian Town (4pm) and the Al Watan Center (5:15pm).
Buena Vista Social Club concert
Orquesta Buena Vista Social Club touches down at Sharq Village and Spa this weekend as part of the Cuban-inspired music group’s global tour.
They’ll be performing on Friday, March 25, starting at 7pm. Admission is restricted to individuals above the age of 21 years old.
Tickets for the event cost QR350 for general admission and QR700 for VIP seats. They can be bought at Virgin Megastores or online here.

Aspire Jam Basketball Tournament
Aspire Jam, a 3-on-3 half-court street basketball tournament, returns to Aspire Park on Saturday, March 26.

Participant registration is now closed, but spectators are invited to watch the action between 3pm and 7pm.
Qatar Open Door Beach Volleyball Friendly Match
In an effort to encourage a healthy lifestyle, the Qatar Open Door Beach Volleyball tournament is taking place at Sharq Village & Spa on Friday, March 25 from 8am to noon.
Registration costs QR50 and includes a t-shirt and certificate. Winning teams and individuals are eligible for cash prizes and other giveaways.

Words & Strings
An evening of poetry, music and spoken word will be held at the College of the North Atlantic on Saturday, March 26 at 6pm.
