After being partially closed for nearly two weeks, Ludaihy (Oryx) roundabout will has re-opened a few days ahead of schedule, Ashghal has announced.
Commuters can ideally expect a smoother ride into and out of West Bay on Thursday.
With Oryx intersection now complete (click here for a trip down memory lane), Onaiza R/B remains the last junction in the area to be closed for construction.
Corniche project almost complete
Ashghal has said it expects to reopen that signal on Friday, meeting its Nov. 15 deadline to complete the conversion of some eight roundabouts in and around the Corniche into intersections. That includes the Museum of Islamic Art, Al Diwan, National Theatre, Wadi Al Sail, Oryx, Onaiza, the National Library and Lejbailat.
In a statement sent to media this evening, the Public Works Authority explained some of the new signals’ road features:
“The new intersections have a number of extra corridors, with wheelchair access, for pedestrians. They are also equipped with light signals for pedestrians to ensure their safety. Moreover, new lanes were constructed at all new intersections to ease the U-turns and left-turns while avoiding traffic congestions.”
Ashghal also thanked its team and traffic police for working to keep the traffic flowing, and commuters for being “tolerant with the road closures to accomplish all works on time.”
