Dutch electronic musical sensation Tiesto will return to Qatar for the first time in five years to holdĀ a concert next monthĀ at the Sheraton Doha hotel.
The performance will be held on Feb. 25 asĀ Tiesto’s first stop in the region in 2016, and is part of a world tourĀ being held in conjunction with the Global DJs ten year anniversary.
UPDATE | Monday, Jan. 11
Tickets are now on saleĀ online here and atĀ the Sheraton Doha dailyĀ from 10am to 10:30pm. For VIP tableĀ information, please contact [email protected] orĀ send a message on Facebook here.
Tijs Michiel Verwest, better known by his stage name Tiesto, first shot to fame in 2001. Since then, the 46-year-oldĀ has consistently been named one of the top three DJs in the world, becomingĀ the first DJ to play live at theĀ Olympics in Athens in 2004, and winningĀ a Grammy last year.
Tiesto’sĀ music is also a regular fixture on Dohaās airwaves and played at many nighttime hotspots here.
According to organizers Iconic Events, the Doha show will rival those played by Tiesto in other high-profile cities around the world, complete with special effects and pyrotechnics.
Speaking to Doha News, Iconic’s managing director Jared McCulloch said:
āThe show is designed by Tiesto’s team and handled by his team on the day. It will feature Special (effects)Ā in the form of fireworks, CO2 blasters, lasers & confetti cannons.
This will be similar to his world tour set-ups that he performs around the world on. Giant LED screens, a huge stage with over 200 lights and one of the biggest sound systems that we have used to date in Qatar.”
McCulloch added that negotiations to bring Tiesto back to Qatar after successful stints in 2009 and 2010 had been going on for years, but that the DJās heavily booked schedule had hindered the process.
Tickets to the event, which will go on sale in the coming days, will initially cost QR300/person, which will be raised to QR350 closer to the concert date. Tickets to VIP tables will also be sold in limited numbers.
The nightās opener will be played by local DJ Pyrokiss, with a warm-up by McCulloch and Paul Mendez.
Past concerts
Despite often being passed over for its more popular cousin Dubai, Doha has recently hosted severalĀ international artists, and is slowly making a name as a regional music destination.
For example, in March 2015, thousands of screaming fans gathered at the Qatar National Convention Center to watch 24-year-old UK singer-songwriter and Grammy nominee Ed Sheeran perform for the first time in Qatar.
AndĀ a few months before that, world-famous artists Gwen Stefani, Pharrell Williams, Kylie Minogue and Taio Cruz performed at theĀ 24th Menās Handball World Championship, which was hosted by Qatar.
