Footage has emerged of legendary Egyptian actor Omar Sharif apparently striking out at who the Guardian has identified as a female journalist at the Doha Tribeca Film Festival, where his 1991 film An Egyptian Citizen is being shown.
According to the Washington Post’s Dina ElBoghdady, Sharif says in Arabic, as he swats at the woman:
“My dear! I told you I’d get to you afterwards! I just said that and you’re standing here. Put something in your brain!”
But then, having posed solo as requested by the photographers, he gamely turned back to the woman. “I’m sorry,” he said in Arabic, and leaned in to smile warmly for a photo with her.
