Effective last night, Ashghal has closed the road connecting Civil Defense Roundabout with Wadi Al Sail R/B in both directions.
During the closure, which will last two weeks, the street will be widened to three lanes in each direction, and an extra lane will be added to the left turn for those coming from Civil Defense R/B and heading to Ludaihi R/B.
Service ducts, irrigation and rainwater drainage networks will also be added. Work is expected to be completed on this segment of the road by Oct. 15.
Perhaps addressing complaints about all of Doha being turned into a parking lot due to simultaneously implemented roadworks, Ashghal said in a statement:
This closure is important to allow construction to finish in a relatively short period of time (15 days) and avoid diverting traffic for a longer period, which can be caused by phasing the project.
In the meantime, drivers can use Itiqlal Street, which runs parallel to the Corniche, as an alternative route – but be warned, that road is also congested these days, due to the conversion of Qatar Sports Club R/B into an intersection.
Thoughts?
