Hundreds of people crowded outside of the Four Seasons Doha yesterday to watch the first Christmas tree lighting ceremony of the season in Qatar.
For many, the highlight of the event was when Santa Clause rode in on a camel, and his reindeer arrived via kayak.
Speaking to Doha News, Sally, a 43-year-old resident from Wales, said:
“In the UK, I’ve never experienced such a grand Christmas tree light opening. We were so excited to see how Santa is going to arrive. Santa coming on camel was an awesome surprise.”
Prior to St. Nick’s arrival, children assembled decorations at an arts & craft station set up in the hotel’s garden terrace. Parents then waited with their kids in long queues to greet Santa, who handed out treats.
Families also sang Christmas carols along with the Doha English Speaking School (DESS) choir.
There are several other tree-lighting ceremonies taking place in Doha in the coming weeks. Stay tuned for our upcoming guide to spending Christmas in Qatar.
