The crane that sparked a safety scare at the Pearl-Qatar over the weekend has been made safe, according to a spokesman for the United Development Company, the company that manages the island.
Speaking to Doha News, Roger Dagher said:
“All risky items have been successfully removed.
We are currently dismantling the remaining tower crane. Â We should be able to complete the job and remove the dismantled items as well as reopen the road for traffic by tonight.”
Marina Way, the main road which gives access to towers 1-5 in Porto Arabia, remains closed today as the dismantling process continues. A dirt ramp, however, does allow access from the adjacent townhouses road to towers one and two. The emergency work began after safety authorities identified a technical fault in a crane opposite Parcel 3 at the Pearl on Friday.
Dagher added that although UDC provided alternative furnished accommodation to some residents who lived nearest to the crane, they were all able to return to their homes on Saturday evening after being advised to leave for safety reasons earlier in the day.
Were you affected by the incident? Thoughts?
