Qatar and the UAE are planning to open the world’s first “extreme sports” parks, according to an anonymous developer interviewed by Construction Week Online.
The plan to is to get the parks up and running by 2013, but construction hasn’t started yet – companies still need to bid for the contracts! – and the location for the parks remain “confidential.”
According to Construction Week Online:
Among the activities offered by the park will be whitewater rafting, kayaking, scuba diving, free diving, cave diving, extreme mountain biking, mountain boarding, online skating, rock climbing and caving.
This will be in addition to other features such as zip wire courses, bungee jumping, and extreme water slides.
I’m not sure what most of that stuff is (don’t you need caves for “caving?”), but it sounds like it would be a cool park.
The parks will also aim for a LEED Platinum rating, the world’s top green rating, by using renewable and solar energy, and practicing water conservation, waste to energy conversion, solar desalination and ecological wastewater treatment.
