The much-awaited finale of Hollywood’s most famous three-part Batman series is scheduled to hit theaters across the world on July 20 – except in several Middle Eastern countries, media reports say.
Because Ramadan is estimated to begin that day, The Dark Knight Rises premiere has been pushed back to Aug. 16 in the UAE and possibly Qatar, several regional media outlets are reporting.
According to the National:
An online petition, believed to have originated in Qatar, is calling on the distributors to release the movie on July 20, and has been spreading like wildfire across the UAE via social media sites.
“For fans who have been tremendously dedicated to this franchise from Batman Begins, it is ridiculous that we should have to wait an entire month for what could become one of the UAE’s favourite movies of all time,” it states, adding that The Dark Knight is one of the UAE’s top 10 films of all time.
It is unclear whether Warner Bros. plans to release Dark Knight on time in Qatar. According to IMAX, Villaggio mall was supposed to debut it on July 20.
But Villaggio’s closure, along with the shuttering of cinemas at Landmark and City Center, which is closed indefinitely, may make watching the movie with the rest of the world difficult.
Of course, anything could happen in a month.
Thoughts?
