The toys are being distributed to children in need in Qatar and around the world to spread joy and happiness during hard times.
Several youngsters gathered at the National Museum of Qatar [NMoQ] on Saturday to donate and wrap up toys for children from low-income families in the country as well as those in need around the world.
The activity was part of Qatar Charity’s “Box of Happiness” initiative that aims to spread joy and happiness to disadvantaged children around the globe in a bid to alleviate some of their suffering while educating the community on the importance of giving back.
In recent years, the impact of Covid-19 has affected millions of children around the world. Issues of health, education, and the inability to acquire essentials have worsened for minorities and low-income families due to the economic struggles of the pandemic.
Such struggles have taken a toll on children’s mental health and have stripped them from experiencing the joys of play.
For that reason, Qatar’s community has gathered to donate hundreds of toys to spread happiness and give back with the help of charities. Children, along with their parents and family members, donated toys and helped wrap them in thoughtful gift packages for delivery.
The activity was held in conjunction with World Children’s Day, which is celebrated annually in honor of youngsters.
This year’s theme, ‘A Better Future for Every Child’, is held in accordance with the global coronavirus pandemic which has affected the rights of every child.
“The idea of the initiative stemmed from our sense of responsibility towards children, especially those experiencing tough health and psychological situations, orphans and underprivileged children,” said QC’s Programmes and Community Development Department Director Fatima Jumah al-Mohanna.
She added that QC’s support comes as part of its keenness to instill strong values of sharing and giving in the children and to bring joy and happiness to kids whose parents cannot afford such toys.
“We want to draw a smile on the faces of the children and bring happiness to their families.”
Several volunteers and technical support teams from the charity also assisted with collecting and wrapping toys.
The next step will include sorting and distributing the gifts to beneficiaries in Qatar and abroad.
