Amid ongoing construction in the area, popular restaurant Turkey Central has closed down its main branch on Mirqab Al Jadeed (Nasr St).
But the eatery is continuing to serve customers down the road at its takeaway outlet across from Family Food Center.
And speaking to Doha News, restaurant representatives said that a new four-story Turkey Central is in the works.
That building is also located on Nasr St, and is expected to open next week.
Several shops on the high-traffic street have been demolished over the past few years to make way for new developments, including a mall.
In 2010, tailors and other store employees spoke to Northwestern University in Qatar journalism students about receiving their evictions notices, saying they weren’t sure where they would end up after losing their jobs and spending 30 to 40 years in Qatar.
The facelift is a part of an ongoing upgrade of older areas in Qatar, including in downtown Musheireb, where thousands of low-income expat residents have been displaced in recent years.
New developments in that area and on Nasr. St. have sparked a years-long debate about the cost of progress and modernization.
Thoughts?
