Residents and businesses across Qatar participated in a global effort to honor the environment and conserve energy tonight by switching off their lights for an hour.

The Torch Doha, several buildings at the Pearl-Qatar and many towers in West Bay went dark this evening, as did the homes of some residents.

Earth Hour this year was also commemorated in other countries, which in addition to going dark planted trees, urged the passage of key laws and launched crowd-funding campaigns to support environmental conservation efforts.
