From a billiards competition to a meet-and-greet with a YouTube celebrity to a date festival at Souq Waqif, there are some interesting things to check out around town this weekend.

World 9-Ball Pool Championship
The 25th World 9-Ball Pool Championship has kicked off at the Qatar Billiards and Snooker Federation, with the main rounds being held from July 30 to Aug. 1.
This is the sixth year Qatar has hosted the tournament, which invites players from around the world to play. Local champions are also competing to win.
Matches run from 8am to 8pm. For more information on individual sessions and timings, check out the federation’s Facebook page.
Date festival at Souq Waqif
Sample locally grown fresh dates at Souq Waqif’s new festival, which runs from July 28 to Aug. 14, from 4pm to 10pm.
The event is being organized by the Ministry of Municipality and Environment and will put the spotlight on local produce from 22 farms, the nutritional value of dates and the benefits of including them in your daily diet.
Book lovers’ meetup
Spread your love of reading with other bookworms at MEESH Me-time Café near the Crowne Plaza on Saturday, July 30 from 10:30am to 12:30pm.

Sunset kayaking
Take a sunset kayaking tour this weekend over the Al Thakhira Mangroves Reserve with Discover Arabia (formerly Entalak).
The group is holding tours at 4pm and 6pm from Thursday, July 28 to Saturday, July 30. The night will end with a BBQ setup but kayakers have to bring their own food.
Prices vary for individuals and groups, and the company is also offering discounts for groups larger than 10 and 15 people. For more information and to register, visit the group’s website.
Meet Adam Saleh
Adam Saleh, an American YouTube celeb of Yemeni origin, is visiting Qatar for the first time this weekend and hosting a free meet and greet for fans.
Saleh, who is perhaps best known for his “Meet a Muslim Person” video, will be at City Center mall’s first floor near Starbucks on Saturday, July 30 at 3pm.

- Art lessons at Mathaf: Explore your creativity with free art lessons at the Arab Museum of Modern Art (Mathaf) with artist Ismael Azzam. His two-week workshops will focus on new techniques in portraiture drawing using pencil and charcoal. Workshops will be held every Sunday and Wednesday from 10am to 1pm from July 31 to Aug. 11 at the Mathaf. Interested participants should register online.
