Doctor: Highest suicide rate in Qatar among Nepali construction workers
Qatar is not a suicide-free country, and must keep better records of people who kill themselves, said Dr. Suhaila Ghaloum, a consultant psychiatrist, during a forum to mark World Suicide Prevention Day earlier this month.
Until 2010, she added, there was not a single recorded case of a Qatari committing suicide. The highest recorded rate is among Nepali construction workers.
Worldwide, someone commits suicide every 40 seconds. The most vulnerable groups include young people, sexual assault victims and the mentally ill.
