More than 1,000 people, including Indian women from Qatar, have helped create the world’s largest crochet blanket for charity.
According to Guinness World Records, the blanket measures 11,148.5 square meters, larger than the football pitch on which it was laid for inspection in Chennai.
The record was actually set in January of this year, but flagged up in local media this week.
The Peninsula reports that the Qatar chapter of Mother India’s Crochet Queens contributed some 173 blankets to the project, with some members making more than 20 blankets.
The tapestry was more than three times the size of the previous record holder, a blanket produced in April 2015 produced for Nelson Mandela Day in South Africa.
According to Guinness, the record-breaking blanket has now been taken apart, and the individual squares donated to those in need through charities.
