Since Qtel announced the details of its super-fast fibre internet service in January, a lot of people have been asking when they’re going to get it.
Well, they’ve actually put together a very useful Google Map to help sort that out. Click on the image above and scroll in or out to find where you live. It’s broken down by color: Green where fibre is currently coming online, Yellow where fibre should be available in three months or so, and Blue for areas where its expected in six months.
(Note:Â This map denotes when the fibre & equipment are being installed, not when the home service is activated, which apparently can take several more months.)
You can also zoom out to check on Al Khor and Al Wakrah/Al Wakair.Â
The bad news is there’s still huge chunks in Doha and elsewhere that have no clear timeline for installation; they say to just keep checking back.
Meanwhile, a new government body, the Qatar National Broadband Network Company, has been established to accelerate the Fibre to the Home network rollout, and they say 95% of all households and 100% of all businesses in the country should have it by 2015!
