With the men’s tournament out of the way, tennis fans in Qatar can look forward to more professional competition with the women’s Qatar Total Open next month.
Tickets for the Women’s Tennis Association tournament, which will run from February 10-16, went on sale online Monday evening around 7pm.
With a tournament prize of nearly $2.5 million, spectators will see the world’s second-highest ranked player Victoria Azarenka return to defend her title against world number 1 Serena Williams.
Also playing are French Open champion Li Na, world no. 5 Agnieszka Radwanksa, Wimbledon winner Petra Kvitova as well as Sara Errani, Jelena Jankovic, Angelique Kerber and Caroline Wozniacki.
Speaking about the lineup, tournament director Saad Al Mohannadi said in a statement:
“It will be exciting to see if Victoria Azarenka can defend her title for a second time among such a talented group of athletes… We look forward to hosting an amazing week of tennis.”
Just over a week ago, men’s world number 1 Rafael Nadal triumphed over Frenchman Gael Monfils to win the Qatar title for the first time.
