From gawking at expensive jewelry to greeting some sheep at the Halal Festival to cheering on your favorite footballers or bikers, there’s lots going on around town this weekend.

Jewellery and Watches Exhibition
If you’re in the market for some fine jewelry this week, or just want to bask in a feeling of luxury, the 14th annual Doha Jewellery and Watches Exhibition (DJWE) is now open to the public at the Doha Exhibition and Convention Center in West Bay.
This year’s exhibition features more than 400 of the world’s most exclusive brands, including Rolex, Bulgari and Alpina.
For the first time, the expo will also feature a watch-making workshop by world-renowned clock experts Objectif Horlogerie.
DJWE will run until Saturday, Feb. 25 and is open from noon to 10pm every day except Friday. Friday’s hours will be from 4pm to 10pm. Children below the age of 12 will not be allowed inside the venue.
Picasso-Giacometti
A new temporary blockbuster exhibition dedicated to two of the most renowned artists of the twentieth century, Pablo Picasso and Alberto Giacometti, has just opened to the public.
The exhibition, at the Fire Station’s Garage Gallery, is the first of its kind in the Middle East. It features more than 120 works by both artists, including paintings, sculptures, sketches and photographs.
Curated by Qatar Museums, the exhibition will run until May 21, 2017. The gallery is open from 11am to 8pm each day, but closed on Monday. On Fridays, the gallery is open from 2pm to 9pm.
Halal Qatar Festival
Those looking for a taste of Qatari culture and heritage should take a stroll around Katara Cultural Village this weekend.
The venue is hosting the 10-day annual Halal Qatar Festival, which features sheep beauty contests, livestock auctions and traditional ardha dancing with swords.
The festival opens on Friday, Feb. 24.
This year’s theme will focus on sheep and goat breeding. In addition to demonstrating methods that help breeding and raising sheep, there will be other educational and recreational activities.
Additionally, a market of products are to be on sale, including spices, perfumes, abayas, honey, Arabic coffee and supplies, swords, dates, dairy products, sweets and olive oil.
The festival will run until March 4 and is open to all from 9am to midnight daily at parking area No. 5.
Motocross World Championship
The opening round of the 5th annual FIM MXGP World Championship takes place at the Losail Motocross Track this Friday and Saturday.
On Friday, Feb. 24, the event schedule will run from 3:15pm to 8:50pm, and from 4:30pm to 9:10pm on Saturday the 25th.
Paddock tickets for both days cost QR100, while VIP tickets cost QR1,000.
The paddock area will include access to the Grandstand, the Spectator Hills, team garages inside the circuit and the VIP terrace viewing point.
The VIP ticket will also include access to the same areas offered by paddock tickets, along with a VIP lounge and unlimited appetizers and beverages.

Workers Cup
The fifth edition of Doha’s annual football tournament the Workers Cup kicks off on Friday at the Qatar Sports Club.
This year, some 600 blue-collar workers will compete across 32 teams.
The event begins at 6:45pm on Friday when Nakheel Landscapes faces off against Bin Omran Trading & Contracting. The opening ceremony will commence at 6:15pm.
The tournament will run every Friday until March 31. It is free and open to all. For more information on scheduling, check out QSL’s website.
QPO concert
The Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra (QPO) will hold a family concert this Friday at the Katara Opera House.
Nour, A Girl of the Desert, tells the story of a child who learns to play the oud in the village where she lives.
Her family’s sudden decision to move to a big city poses a big challenge for Nour. Through her love of playing the oud, she eventually finds her place in the city and connects to her new world.
The concert will have two showtimes, 4pm and 6pm. Tickets cost QR75 per person. Book your seats here.

- Science Majlis: Science enthusiasts from across the country are invited to participate in a public discussion about the future of clean energy and fossil fuels tonight at 6pm at the HBKU Student Center. Under the title “Can Clean Energy Replace Fossil Fuels?”, the conversation will be led by Dr. Marwan Khraisheh from the Qatar Environment and Energy Research Institute (QEERI).
