Government inspectors have ordered the temporary closure of six beauty centers across Doha, just ahead of one of their busiest seasons.
They include well-known hairdressers Jacques Dessange Paris on Salwa Road and the popular Nara Salon on Al Waab Street, the Ministry of Economy and Commerce said.
Five of the salons were closed for one week starting yesterday, June 29, while the Falcon Club Hair Saloon on Al Nasser St. in Al Sadd was shut for two weeks.
During spot-checks, inspectors found salon employees to be using hair products that were past their use-by date, the MEC said as it posted the notice of closures on Twitter.
No one from the salons was available for comment.
Eid rush
The closures come amid an inspection campaign on salons across town and during the run-up to Eid, when shopping centers and salons are usually flooded with people.
Earlier this month, Maison De Beauté in Al Markhiya was shut for two weeks while in May, inspectors shut Mohammed Al Sagheer Salon in Ras Abu Abboud, inside of Sharq Village & Spa hotel.
Sawasdee Beauty & Thai Spa in Maamoura were also closed for one month and one week, respectively.
Having expired products is contrary to article 6 of Qatar’s consumer protection law (No. 8 of 2008).
