As part of ongoing construction work in and around the Corniche, a section of Al Markhiya Street will be closed both ways starting late tonight, Ashghal has announced.

The closure extends from Al Barzan intersection on Al Markhiya Street (near ictQatar and Commercial Bank) to Ludaihi roundabout on the Corniche, and will last one month.

Commuters can instead use Al Funduq St. from Sheraton Roundabout as an alternative route to get to and from the Corniche, Ashghal said.

Traffic in and around the Corniche area has been backed up for weeks as several roundabouts are being converted to signalized intersections.

Officials have been pleading for patience with irate commuters, and have said that they expect the project to be completed by November:

“Ashghal” is working around the clock to make sure that the project is completed on time. Once completed the new intersections will ensure smooth traffic flow in the area and reduce traffic congestion.
