The Ramadan Cannon by Omar Chatriwala
It’s a tradition that’s carried out every year in Qatar, but also across the Gulf and elsewhere in the Muslim World.
A cannon (or other artillery) is fired off at sunset to let Muslims know that they can break their fast during the month of Ramadan.
In Doha, security forces set up in the afternoon at the empty lot beside the General Post Office. Residents crowd around on foot or in their cars to get a glimpse of the action. Show up by 6pm if you want to get a good spot.
