Football fans who have not bought seats to the upcoming friendly match between Paris Saint Germain and Real Madrid appear to be out of luck, as tickets have been “totally sold out,” a spokeswoman said.
Tickets for the game, which will be held on Jan. 2 at Khalifa International Stadium, went on sale two weeks ago, both online and later, in certain Ooredoo outlets. Tickets were also expected to be sold at the Khalifa Stadium box office starting Dec. 31, depending on availability.
Speaking to Doha News, a Qatar Football Association spokeswoman said Ooredoo will continue to offer ticket collection service for customers who have already purchased their seats, but that no more tickets will be sold.
On Facebook, the QFA is calling the game the fastest-selling match in Qatar football history. It quotes the organization’s Secretary General Saoud Al-Mohannadi as saying:
“This really is what football is all about – the love of the game. The passion, the excitement and the togetherness. Football is renowned for uniting people of all ages and nationality. This match is most certainly going to be spectacular on the pitch and even more so in the stand.”
Fans may be heartened to know, however, that FC Barcelona is also planning to hold a friendly match in Qatar, sometime early next year.
But the date of the match, which was included in an agreement signed between Barca and Qatar Sports Investment in 2010, has yet to be set.
Have you been able to secure tickets to watch the PSG/Real Madrid friendly? Thoughts?
