A building that houses Qatar and Saudi Arabia’s UN missions in New York was evacuated last night over concerns about a suspicious package, Reuters reports.
Personnel were cleared to re-enter the building, which is located across from the UN’s headquarters, after police said there was “no hazard.”
Reuters stated that the package had been sent to the Saudi mission, and that security was contacted as a precaution.
It quoted John Miller, the New York Police Department’s deputy commissioner for intelligence and counter-terrorism, as saying:
“It’s a couple of household items and a framed picture, no hazard. It may just be a gift to the mission, we don’t know,” he added.
