Qatar resident lands in hot water for insulting envoy on Facebook
Taking a page from Egypt and the UAE, Qatar may pursue legal action against a resident for posting a Facebook insult against an ambassador.Â
The Peninsula reports:
The anti-cyber crime unit of the Ministry of Interior swung into action after it was informed of the development. The unit got in touch with Qatar Telecom (Qtel) and urged it to provide details of the people behind the facebook.
Qtel cooperated and law-enforcement officials zeroed in on the person, a local Arabic daily reported yesterday quoting a senior official from the anti-cyber crime unit.
Chilling!
Without a press law to define an Internet code of conduct here, officials say the best advice they have for residents is to tread carefully online.Â
