The initiative was announced during Qatar’s Minister of State for International Cooperation‘s visit to Port Sudan.
Qatar’s Minister of State for International Cooperation, Maryam Al Misnad, concluded a high-level visit to Port Sudan on Thursday, where she met with senior Sudanese officials and reaffirmed Qatar’s continued support amid the country’s ongoing humanitarian crisis.
Al Misnad was received by the Chairman of Sudan’s Transitional Sovereignty Council, Lieutenant General Abdel Fattah Al Burhan. The two officials discussed ways to strengthen bilateral relations, with a particular focus on humanitarian and development cooperation.
During her visit, Al Misnad emphasised Qatar’s steadfast commitment to Sudan’s unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity.
“The State of Qatar reaffirms its unwavering commitment to continue supporting the brotherly Sudanese people during these difficult times,” she said in remarks delivered in Port Sudan.
She also voiced deep concern over the worsening humanitarian situation, calling on all parties to prioritise the national interest, end hostilities, and ensure unimpeded humanitarian access.
During her visit, Minister Al Misnad held meetings with Sudan’s Acting Federal Minister of Health, Dr Haitham Mohamed Ibrahim, and Acting Federal Minister of Education, Ahmed Khalifa Omar, to discuss strengthening bilateral cooperation in health and education.
Talks focused on medical support, humanitarian aid, and the rehabilitation of Sudan’s education infrastructure, which has been severely affected by the ongoing conflict.
Qatar also announced the allocation of $10 million to support women in conflict zones across Sudan, with the aim of empowering them socially and psychologically.
“These efforts reflect the State of Qatar’s firm commitment to providing relief, humanitarian, and development assistance,” Al Misnad said.
She also highlighted the work of Qatari humanitarian organisations actively delivering aid and implementing projects across various sectors to help mitigate the impact of the conflict.
Al Misnad further underscored Qatar’s role in co-sponsoring the 2023 High-Level Pledging Conference for Sudan and the region, reaffirming the country’s ongoing humanitarian engagement.
She stressed the need for enhanced cooperation and coordination with international, regional, and local partners—particularly the United Nations—to alleviate the suffering of the Sudanese people and support efforts toward lasting peace and stability in Sudan.
