As Qatar Rail begins to wrap up round-the-clock tunneling for the Doha Metro, many of its massive boring machines (TBMs) are completing their final breakthroughs at stations around the country.
This week, a TBM finished its job at the Msheireb station for the southern section of the Red Line, marking the completion of 100km of tunneling on the Doha Metro project.

The Msheireb hub also saw the final breakthrough on the Gold Line this month.
The Gold, Red and Green lines are expected to begin transporting passengers to 37 stations around Qatar in late 2019/early 2020.
In a statement, Qatar Rail said 90 percent of tunneling is now complete, with only some 11km of digging to go.

The company added that only 10 of the 21 TBMs that had been at work in Qatar are still in operation. The others have been decommissioned after finishing their assignments.
Now, construction is shifting to installing electrical equipment and completing the structure of the first 37 stations.
