Qatar is now home to two more world records, both in honor of National Sport Day.
The first record was set by Doha Bank, which presented the world’s largest soccer ball in a ceremony at Lulu Hypermarket on D-Ring Road yesterday.
The 960-kilo, 38-foot high ball beat out Oman’s previous record by more than 200 kilos.Â
Qatar clocked its second record, also certified by a member of the Guinness observation team yesterday, for the largest number of players in a five-a-side non-stop football match.Â
That event, organization by the Qatar Football Association and Qatar Shell, involved 523 players who spent a collective 11 hours and 58 minutes playing the game. That beat the record set by 464 players in the UK last October.
Other records set by Qatar in previous years: world’s longest thank-you letter to a ruler (a new category); largest monopoly game; and world’s biggest squash racket ever built.
