Sheikh Saud bin Ali Al Thani has resigned from his post as Qatar Basketball Federation (QBF) President after the national team’s shameful exit from the FIBA Asia Championship in Wuhan, China, recently.
FIBA Asia, the game’s continental rule-making body, had suspended five players from the team after documents revealed they were only recently naturalized. The Qatar team, in response, deliberately fouled out and lost their group games against Uzbekistan and defending champions Iran before losing against Chinese Taipei in full time.
Sheikh Saud, who is also the Vice-President of the Qatar Olympic Committee, will however retain his post as FIBA Asia President.
