A fourth Qatari woman will be flying to London to compete in the Olympics.
18 year old table tennis player Aya Majdi joins sprinter Noor Al Malki, swimmer Nada Mohammad Wafa Arakji and shooter Bahiya Mansour Al Hamad on Qatar’s team.
Aya’s addition to the squad means Qatar will be sending 12 athletes to the games – eight men and four women. It is the first time Qatar has sent women to compete in an Olympic games.Â
In an interview with Doha Stadium Plus, Aya’s coach Nada Al Amri said:
“This is a historic moment for women’s table tennis and there’s none better than Aya to be a part of the Olympics. She’s the best woman paddler the country has ever produced. Even if she doesn’t win a game in London, the mere experience of being there will give her a lot of confidence.”
