Qatar police are investigating the murder of Filipino nurse Orlando Meneses, who was found stabbed to death in his flat in Markhiya this week, the Philippines ambassador to Qatar has said.
Meneses, a staff nurse at Hamad Medical Corp., bore several stab wounds and burn injuries on different parts of his body, ambassador Crescente Relacion said, citing the police report.
According to one media report, witnesses allegedly heard Meneses pleading for his life before he was killed.
Police have questioned four people thus far, including the victim’s neighbors and flatmate, who remains in custody, Vice Consul Gilbert Segarra told the Peninsula.
No motive for the killing has been determined, he added.
Meneses’ body is being flown back to the Philippines for his funeral.
Last month, residents were shocked at news that an elderly female national was killed during a botched robbery attempt. According to police, the New Salata woman’s maid eventually confessed to setting her sponsor up.
Two murders in two months is big news in Qatar, which has one of the world’s lowest crime rates.
