A giant $10 million cinema complex is expected to open at the Pearl-Qatar’s Medina Centrale “this year,” the CEO of UAE-based Gulf Film, which is building the facility, has said.
The cinema is likely one of some 50 multiplex facilities that Qatar-owned Q.media, which has just acquired a majority stake in Gulf Film, plans to open over the next three years, the National reports.
The company includes a film distribution company and Grand Cinemas, the Middle East’s largest cinema chain.
A large movie complex at the Pearl has been in the plans for years.
As far back as 2006, developer United Development Company promised investors a 1,900 cinema-seat facility that will feature the “latest blockbusters.”
Medina Centrale, the “town center” of the Pearl, is also supposed to be home to Doha’s second Qatar Distribution Company (QDC) store, according to UDC’s website.
But that shop remains shuttered after debuting for less than a day.
Thoughts on the new movie theater?
