As it continues work on the upcoming Dukhan Expressway, public works authority Ashghal has closed a few small streets that split away from southbound traffic on Al Gharafa Street, heading toward Slope Roundabout.
New detours are in place for those going to the Qatar Science & Technology Park (QSTP), Sidra Medical and Research Center and two primary schools – the Sudanese Boys School and Al Khawarizmi Primary Girls Independent School.

Ashghal previously said that the QR3.7 billion Dukhan Highway East project would form an east-west link across the country when it is completed in late 2015. It is slated to run from the Bani Hajer Interchange (west) to the Tilted (Slope) Interchange (east), and along Al Gharafa Road from Al Rayyan Street (south) to Thani Bin Jasim Street (north).
In a statement, the public works authority said:
Expected to be operational until August 2016, the southbound detour is an essential diversion installed to commence the upgrading of the existing Al Gharafa route and complete the diversion of underground utilities.
The upgrading works will involve construction of a 4-lane underpass in both directions with a central median island and an interchange junction replacing the previous 2 lanes for north and southbound traffic.
