First bikes, and now an open-air gymnasium!
Qatar’s government is getting serious about its commitment to fitness, first adding bikes and now installing an array of exercise equipment along the Doha Corniche.
The machines – installed in recent weeks – are a pleasant surprise for many residents who have flocked to the seafront as the weather cools down, though long lines can become a problem at times.
The Peninsula reports:
“Since it is difficult to come here during working days, we are here on Fridays and Saturdays,” said George Thomas, who runs a private firm.
“My wife and I spend much time here, running the whole stretch of the Corniche. Now the added facilities are a boost to our sweating it out and we have included various stretching and strengthening exercise to the routine runs along the Corniche. These equipment just make coming here more thrilling,” he said.
…It exercises nearly all of its 206 bones and 600 muscles. The five fitness stations offer three levels of exercise intensity, so that users can custom-build their own progressive workout regimen.
The machines can be found in two spots – “LifeTrail” equipment near Sheraton Park, which is meant for older and active adults; and “Energi” equipment for those aged 13 and above, near Orry the Oryx.
One exerciser offers a tip: bring your own wet wipes to make sure you get a hygienic workout.
Have you guys tried/seen the new equipment? What do you think?
