Mutaz Barshim has won Qatar’s second medal at the London 2012 Olympics, taking bronze in the high jump.
The 21-year-old cleared 2.29M on Tuesday to finish in third. Russian competitor Ivan Ukhov beat him out for the gold with a leap of 2.38M, while USA’s Erik Kynard took silver hitting 2.33M.
By winning the bronze, Barshim becomes the fourth athlete to have ever won an Olympic medal for Qatar, and his win marks the first time the country has ever won two medals at a single edition of the Games.
Nasser Al Attiyah won the first bronze in London last week for skeet shooting. It was also the first win for Qatar in 12 years.
