UAE-based fire department spokesman, in a Gulf News story debunking the popular rumor that heat can cause gasoline in a car’s fuel tank to explode.
Gulf News reports:
Dollar Thrifty Automotive Group noted that, “In case readers are not already aware, this is a hoax. Without a spark to occur, the auto ignition temperature of petrol is about 400 degrees Celsius.”
Qatar’s Ministry of Interior has also stressed that it’s ok to fill up your gas tanks all the way during the summer months.
