Thousands of people are expected to turn up for funeral prayers for former Emir Sheikh Khalifa bin Hamad Al Thani today.
The Grandfather Emir, who ruled the country for 23 years, died yesterday at the age of 84.
Prayers will be held this afternoon after Asr (~2:30pm) at the Imam Mohammed bin Abdulwahab (State) Mosque in Doha. They are only open to officials, dignitaries, ambassadors and other VIPs, guards there told Doha News today.
Expect heavy traffic near TV Roundabout and the Corniche during this time. Afterward, Sheikh Khalifa will be buried at Al Rayyan Cemetery.
Condolences
The Emiri Diwan has also announced that the Emir Sheikh Tamim the Father Emir Sheikh Hamad will receive condolences from mourners at Al-Wajbah Palace at the following times:
- Today from after Maghrib prayer to Isha prayer; and
- Tuesday and Wednesday, from 9am to Dhuhr prayer, and between Asr and Isha prayers.
