Qatar residents are slated to get a chance to pose with the FIFA World Cup trophy for the first time next week, during a fan event on Saturday, Dec. 14 at Aspire Zone.
The solid gold cup, which officially arrives in Doha on Dec. 12, has been on a whirlwind tour over the past nine months, visiting 89 countries so far. This is its first visit to Qatar, and its first tour since the country won hosting rights to the 2022 World Cup three years ago.
After the cup leaves Doha, it will head to the UAE and then move on to Europe and South America, before landing in Brazil ahead of the 2014 tournament.
The fan zone event is free, but visitors will have to get tickets to view the trophy at the gates, which open at noon.
According to organizers of the tour, who spoke to Doha News:
“In the Fan Zone there will be a section where every single person can take images with the trophy. A photographer will be there to give each person an image to take away with them. This process takes about 6 seconds.”
Do you plan to head out to meet the cup? Thoughts?
