Qatar’s former Emir has returned to the country after receiving emergency treatment in Switzerland for breaking his leg late last month.

Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani had been vacationing in Morocco when the incident happened on Dec. 26.

Upon his return to Qatar last night, Sheikh Hamad was welcomed by several of his sons, including the country’s Emir Sheikh Tamim, as well as Sheikh Jassim and Sheikh Joaan, who posted a message and photo on Instagram expressing happiness at the return.

A statement from Qatar’s government communications office confirmed the news, saying:

“HH The Father Emir arrived back in Qatar on Monday… and was welcomed by HH The Emir Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al-Thani and his family. HH The Father Emir is well and is successfully recovering from his leg injury.”
