Experts: Australia may overtake Qatar as world’s biggest producer of liquefied natural gas by 2020
Australia is “the new Qatar,” says Guy Broggi, head of liquified natural gas (LNG) operations at French oil company Total.
The country has seven production plants that will be completed and go into operation in the coming years.
Meanwhile, Qatar has frozen any LNG expansion until 2015. That said, experts say Qatar can still lock-in long-term deals while Australia completes its facilities.
