Motorists will need to drive more cautiously on parts of 22 February Road in Qatar from today.
An 800m stretch of the street near Al Rayyan Roundabout will see three lanes in each direction narrowed for the remainder of the year, Ashghal has announced.
The affected area starts near Sports Roundabout and goes past Al Rayyan Roundabout, heading toward Al Shamal.
The speed limit during this time will be reduced to 50km/hour for safety reasons. Expect traffic backups at least initially as this is a busy area.
Because of the diversion, the road is now going to be off-limits to trucks and heavy load vehicles traveling toward Al Shamal Road and the Industrial Area.
They will instead need to use service roads and follow the new diversion signs, Ashghal said.
Al Rayyan Road flyover
The narrowed lanes are in place to facilitate construction of a new flyover as part of an Al Rayyan Road overhaul.
Once completed, the flyover will connect the Doha Expressway with Al Rayyan Road.
Earlier this month, Ashghal announced a partial closure of Al Rayyan Road near Sports Roundabout for six months.
That construction is so the public works authority can build a flyover that connects 22 February St. with Al Rayyan Road (heading west).
