Diversion alert: Corniche to Grand Hamad St. closed for 10 days
Ashghal, the Public Works Authority, has temporarily closed the segment of Grand Hamad Street near Souq Waqif and Fanar that leads to the Corniche.
In a statement issued last night, Ashghal said the closure of both directions of the road is part of ongoing construction on the Corniche to replace a number of roundabout and install smart traffic sensors.
The road closure officially began Thursday night (Sept. 26), with the road slated to reopen 10 days later. The government entity adds:
The closure in both directions will allow the completion of its alignment with the Corniche Street that is currently being upgraded. This alignment work is essential to ensure smooth traffic flow from the Grand Hamad Street to the Corniche Street.
In the meantime, Ashghal recommends using Al Meena St. to access the area instead. It also reiterated that the Corniche construction project is is on schedule.
Officials have previously said that work on eight roundabout in and near the Corniche will be completed by mid-November.
