A new interchange in northern Doha should help to take some of the pressure off clogged roads around Doha Golf Club and the Al Khor Coastal Road, Ashghal said.
The multi-level Izghawa intersection fully opened yesterday and aims to improve connections between the northern districts on either sides of Al Shamal Road.
Providing an alternative to the busy Duhail roundabout, the new junction links Duhail, Lusail City and West Bay Lagoon with districts to the west of the Expressway.
That includes Al Gharafa, Al Kharaytiat, Umm Salal and Education City.
It has up to four lanes in each direction and traffic lights, the public works authority said in a statement.
Previously, parts of the intersection had opened to traffic, including the bridge that took motorists towards central Doha and a route linking Al Shamal Road with Lusail City.
Al Huwaila bridge
Further north on Al Shamal Road, the Al Huwaila bridge has opened, which will make it easier for traffic from Ras Laffan Industrial City to head south toward Doha.
Both links are part of the North Road corridor enhancement project, to upgrade existing routes and add new interchanges along the northern section of the Al Shamal Road.
It’s due to wrap up next year, and 80 percent of the work is already done, Ashghal added.
