Rain showers and possible thunderstorms are expected to move across Qatar tomorrow, picking up on Thursday afternoon and Friday morning, local meteorologists have said.
While precipitation is usually welcome by residents here, the downpours will likely put a damper on several outdoor weekend activities, including the Qatar International Food Festival and Katara Beach Soccer events.
Organizers of both said they are looking into contingency plans in case it rains.
Speaking to Doha News, Steff Gaulter, senior meteorologist for Al Jazeera English, said:
“We’re expecting a shower on Wednesday and some more persistent rain on Thursday afternoon and Friday, (which) looks quite heavy.” She added that thunder and lightning are both expected.

Earlier this week, a downpour of rain caused flooding on several streets in and around Doha, roiling traffic and leading to hundreds of minor accidents, according to local media reports.
In a statement, the Qatar Meteorology Department explained that “unstable weather” is common for March, as the country transitions from cooler weather to hotter days.
The MET added that residents can expect temperatures to be in the mid-20Cs for the rest of the week. Winds will be moderate to strong, and there will be high sea warnings at times.
Will the rain affect your weekend plans? Thoughts?

What about an international sporting event that is followed by millions around the globe, i.e. the MotoGP? Surely this is of a greater importance with respect to national exposure around the world of motorsports than what possibly can the Food Festival and the Katara Beach Soccer can be!
