18 artists to showcase their representation of National Day
A new exhibition at the Al Markhiya Gallery of Doha Fire Station, titled 18, is celebrating Qatar’s National Day through the works of 18 local artists.
The exhibition launched on Dec 3rd and was curated by Qatari artists Fatima Mohammed and Shouq Al Mana.
In “The Celebration,” independent filmmaker and visual artist Khalifa Al Thani showcases a traditional movie poster depicting National Day. Artist Mohammed Al Hammadi’s “Doha Downtown” is made entirely of digital pixel art and features Doha’s iconic skyline.
Working with mixed media, printmaking and installation art, Fatima Mohammed’s two paintings are based on her fictional character ‘Anaj,’ – the protagonist in many of her works from paintings to installations to performance.
“The two paintings, which look opposite yet complementary in the use of maroon and white colours, represent society and unity,” said Mohammed.
The exhibition will run until Jan 8, 2020.
