Qatar’s national football team beat Russia for the first time last night in a friendly match at Al Saad Stadium.
Some 4,500 fans attended the game, including FIFA Secretary General Fatma Samoura, who was in town to meet with World Cup organizers.
Al Anabi has previously lost to the Red Army three times.
Upcoming China match
Last night’s victory is sure to boost morale among team members, as they gear up for a crucial World Cup qualifying match against China on Tuesday. Nov. 15.
Qatar has never qualified to compete in a World Cup, but has been working to secure its spot at the 2018 tournament in Russia.
It will automatically get to play in 2022 because Qatar is the host.
