Qatar police have been investigating after a corpse was found outside of an apartment building that houses Qatar Airways employees in Mansoura.
According to multiple witnesses, emergency responders swarmed the neighborhood of the Stanlli 2 building on Hamza Bin Malik Street yesterday.
The complex is one of several buildings in the area that is rented by the national carrier to house employees.
This morning, strips of police tape that appeared to have been used to cordon off the basement parking garage of the facility were still visible. The parking lot appeared to be clear of cars.
Guards at neighboring buildings told Doha News that the body of a woman had been found inside of a water tank near Stanlli 2.
A version of this account was shared widely on WhatsApp last night, alongside a photo of police cars with their lights flashing outside the building.
Authorities have not yet said whether foul play is suspected. Both Qatar Airways and the Ministry of Interior have not commented on the incident.
However, in an internal memo obtained by Doha News, a senior Qatar Airways official told cabin crew the following today:
“This email is to confirm, as you may be aware of some rumour or speculation, a crime has occurred outside of the premises of the Stanlli 2 crew accommodation.
It has been confirmed that the victim was not an employee of Qatar Airways. The matter is now in the control of the law enforcement agencies.”
In a closed Facebook group for cabin crew, management reassured Qatar Airways staff of their safety, saying police officers were being assigned to patrol the residential buildings until investigators determine the cause of the incident.
That note also said police and CID are holding onto the body “for further biological and DNA checks, and they haven’t released any information about the face, the colour, the identity of the dead body.”
