Karolína Muchová got the better of Canadian youngster Victoria Mboko to emerge victorious in the women’s competition at the 2026 Qatar Open.
The final day at the 2026 WTA Qatar Open started off with the doubles final, which saw Jeļena Ostapenko and Hsieh Su-wei take on Anna Danilina and Aleksandra Krunić.
Hsieh and Ostapenko got off to a flying start, blanking their opponents 6-0 in the first set. They seemed firmly on course to claim the trophy as they led 5-2 in the second set, but Danilina and Krunić mounted a dramatic comeback. The fourth seeds broke twice in quick succession, clinched the second set in a tense tiebreak, and ultimately sealed the match with a thrilling 10-8 win in the match tiebreak.
That thriller set the stage very nicely for the main event — the singles final between Victoria Mboko and Karolína Muchová. The 19-year-old took to the court for just her second final at the senior level, having lifted her first title on home soil in Canada last year.
The youngster battled her more experienced rival shot for shot but narrowly lost the first set 6-4. The second set remained tightly contested, with both players exchanging breaks midway, before Muchová gained the crucial edge by taking Mboko’s final service game. Serving for the championship, she won four consecutive points to claim her first title at this level.
The 29-year-old Czech player beamed with delight at her achievement. As she lifted the trophy at the awards ceremony, she said, “This is my first 1000-level title, and I’m so incredibly happy to win it here in Doha”.
That was that for the women’s tournament at this year’s Qatar Open, but world-class tennis action will continue at the Khalifa International Tennis and Squash Complex as the men’s Qatar Open is up next. The qualifiers are already underway, and the tournament proper is set to run from February 16 to February 21.
