Türkiye’s foreign minister met Qatar’s Amir in Doha on Sunday for talks on bilateral ties, regional tensions and diplomatic efforts.
Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan visited Doha on Sunday for talks focused on strengthening bilateral relations with Qatar and exchanging views on regional and international developments.
Qatar’s Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani received Fidan in Lusail Palace, where the Turkish foreign minister conveyed condolences on the passing of the late Father Amir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani.
Fidan prayed for the late Father Amir to be granted God’s mercy, according to a statement from the Amiri Diwan.
In response, Sheikh Tamim thanked the Turkish minister for his sincere sentiments and condolences.
The meeting also reviewed the close cooperation between Qatar and Türkiye, along with the latest regional and international developments.
Discussions focused on diplomatic efforts and joint coordination aimed at reducing escalation and enhancing security and stability in the region.
The talks were attended by Qatar’s Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani and Chief of the Amiri Diwan Abdullah bin Mohammed Al Khulaifi.
Fidan also held talks with Qatar’s Prime Minister and Foreign Minister.
The meeting between Sheikh Mohammed and Fidan covered bilateral relations as well as the latest regional developments, particularly diplomatic efforts and coordination between Qatar and Türkiye to reduce tensions and promote regional security and stability.
Sheikh Mohammed stressed the importance of all parties remaining committed to dialogue and diplomacy, and implementing what was agreed under the memorandum of understanding between the United States and the Islamic Republic of Iran.
He highlighted the importance of ensuring freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.
Sheikh Mohammed reaffirmed Qatar’s support for efforts aimed at easing tensions and reaching a comprehensive agreement that would achieve lasting peace and stability in the region.
Fidan’s visit marks his latest trip to Qatar, following his previous visit in May.
Qatar and Türkiye have maintained close strategic relations since elevating their partnership in 2014, with the Qatar-Türkiye Supreme Strategic Committee serving as the main framework for cooperation between the two countries.
The committee, established to strengthen coordination across political, economic, defence and other fields, has held annual meetings since 2015, alternating between Qatar and Türkiye.
The most recent session was held in Doha in October 2025, with the 12th session set to be held in Türkiye later this year under the chairmanship of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Qatar’s Amir.
The two nations have set a target of expanding trade volume further, while the Qatar-Türkiye Economic and Trade Partnership Agreement, signed in November 2018, entered into force on 1 August 2025 to support greater economic cooperation.
Bilateral trade between Doha and Ankara reached $1.1 billion annually in 2025, and both countries have set a target of increasing trade to $5 billion in the coming years.
