Vodafone-Qatar has grown its customer base by 11 percent over the past year to some 837,000 people as of March 31, the company has said.
That translates to 47 percent of Qatar’s population, says Vodafone, which attributes its growth to several promotions and network enhancements:
“We’re proud of the continued growth of our customer base, which has been supported by the completion of our mobile network deployment. We now have nationwide coverage, excellent voice quality and a very impressive experience for customers accessing the internet on their Vodafone devices.
The challenging start-up phase is now behind us and we are looking forward to welcoming even more customers onto our network,” said Richard Daly, CEO, Vodafone Qatar.
But Qtel’s only competition won’t be releasing its year-end financial statements until next month, which makes it hard to gauge just how well it is actually doing.
Last quarter, Vodafone posted a net loss of QR122 million, less than the QR144 million in the same period a year ago, but still falling short of analyst expectations.
Since it entered Qatar in 2009, its quarters usually end in the red, not the black, though its losses have been narrowing over time.
